RCMT NAMES NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

After a thorough two-year process, the Board of Royal City Musical Theatre is thrilled to announce the appointment of Chris Adams as the company’s new Artistic Director.

Chris steps into the role with a long and meaningful history with RCMT, having been a dedicated supporter both onstage and behind the scenes. An award-winning director, producer, and theatre educator, he has been serving as Interim Artistic Director since Valerie Easton stepped down in 2024.

“Chris has truly gone above and beyond in his role as Interim Artistic Director for RCMT. His passion for the company, his commitment to continually learning and applying more inclusive theatre practices, and his steady leadership through challenges were all key reasons we chose to offer him the position.

This decision came with great care. We extend our sincere thanks to our hiring task force and external advisory panel, whose guidance shaped this thoughtful and transparent process.

As a board, we are incredibly excited for the next chapter of RCMT with Chris at the helm.”

“It’s incredibly humbling to take on a role once held by Ed Harrington, Lloyd Nicholson, and Valerie Easton - leaders whose influence shaped my own path in theatre. I first stepped onto the RCMT stage in The Sound of Music in 2003, and to now return as Artistic Director, 23 years later, is both a full-circle moment and a profound honour.

Royal City Musical Theatre is powered by an extraordinary community; one built on passion, dedication, and countless volunteer hours. As a New Westminster resident, it means a great deal to contribute to a company that holds such deep roots in this beautiful city.
