Royal City Musical Theatre is thrilled to present Disney’s Newsies The Broadway Musical, April 9th - 25th, 2027.

Based on the Disney film and inspired by the true story of the Newsboys’ Strike of 1899, this Tony Award-winning musical bursts onto the stage with high-energy dance, unforgettable songs, and a timeless message about standing up for what’s right. Join Jack Kelly, David, Katherine, and a fearless crew of newsies as they take on the powerful newspaper publishers of turn-of-the-century New York City. Featuring beloved songs like “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies is packed with dazzling choreography, stunning costumes, and larger-than-life characters. It’s an inspiring, high-spirited adventure that proves when you stand together, you can make a difference.

Audition Details

RCMT is a community theatre and, as such, most roles will be filled by volunteers. A small number of Equity Artists will be contracted under the CAEA DOT Policy. We are seeking talented triple-threat performers with strong technical dance ability, with tap dancing as an asset. There are non-dance roles in this production. Please see details below. 

Eligibility: We can only see Metro Vancouver locals at this time. If you are a Metro Vancouver local who is out of town for the auditions/callbacks, please set up a self-tape audition on Casting Manager.

Rehearsals: Begin on or around February 16th, 2027 in New Westminster (part-time, evenings and weekends). A full rehearsal schedule will be provided before rehearsals begin. Tech Week (April 3rd - 9th, 2027) will require a full-time commitment.

Members of Canadian Actors Equity Association: Please email a headshot and resume to auditions@royalcitymusicaltheatre.com and we will assign you a time.

Vocal Audition: Please prepare two contrasting musical theatre pieces (approx. 32 bars each) though due to time, you may only sing one.. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in the correct key, in a binder.

Dance Call: In addition to your vocal audition, on the same day, performers will attend one of the scheduled dance calls (please see below for Actor-Only and Dancer-Only exceptions):- Friday, September 11th, 2026 at 4:00pm- Saturday, September 12th, 2026 at 3:30 pm- Thursday, September 17th, 2026 at 3:30 pm- Friday, September 18th, 2026 at 4:00 pm
For the initial dance call, please bring jazz shoes or clean, non-marking runners. The initial round will include a Broadway jazz combination. A tap combination will be taught during the callback round only. 

Actor-Only Auditions: New this year, we will be holding actor-only auditions on Thursday, September 17th for those interested in the many non-dancing roles in Newsies. Newsies features a variety of characters that do not require singing and dancing. If you are an actor who would like to be considered for one of these roles, we would love to see you. An accompanist will be present if you would like to sing a song, or you are welcome to perform a monologue, whichever feels most comfortable for you. You may be asked to cold read from the script.If you would like to audition for the actor-only roles, simply sign up for a slot Thursday, September 17th on Casting Manager.

Dancer-Only Auditions: New this year, we will be holding dancer-only auditions on Thursday, September 17th for those interested in our dancer-only roles. This year, we are excited to create a dedicated dance ensemble of performers with extensive dance backgrounds who want to explore musical theatre without the barrier of a solo vocal audition. This is an opportunity for strong dancers (Tap, Acro, Gymnastics) to be part of Newsies and bring their skills to the stage in a high-energy musical theatre environment. If you would like to audition for the dancer-only ensemble, simply sign up for a slot Thursday, September 17th on Casting Manager. Note: There may be a group singing portion during callbacks.
