Pulling out all the stops for the title tune’s precision tap-dance drill team, the Royal City Musical Theatre production provided eye-popping action and extravagant costumes to bring the colour and excitement of a Broadway musical to life.
A Classic Showbiz Tale
Set in 1933, 42nd Street is the story of a past-her-prime star replaced, when she suffers a broken ankle, by an eager young newcomer who springboards to stardom. Romance, intrigue and unexpected plot twists and turns keep cast and audience alike on their toes.
Royal City Musical’s 2007 production of 42nd Street was a delightful trip down memory lane for thousands of fans of both the film and the Broadway production, and a unique opportunity for young musical theatre fans to become acquainted with a classic.
Directed by Royal City Musical Theatre’s artistic director, well-known local musical theatre veteran Lloyd Nicholson, the music and songs of 42nd Street were performed under the baton of musical director James Bryson, with choreography by Valerie Easton.
